First of all, it seems I've settled into the routine of writing a Belize Bound chapter once a month. Wow, and our trip was 6 months ago; time really does fly. Ridiculous. In the famous words of SNL and Kristen Wiig's Gilly... "Ssawry." My apologies to those who read them. I need to get going on the final ones ASAP.
Secondly, today I reached a record high of sprayed listings... 7. SEVEN. It felt good. Hopefully this summer we'll actually have larvae to blast. I'd like to be productive and give ICB a good rep (well, try to).
Anyway, just wanted to backseat blog. Ciao for now.

Backseat Blogging
I'm in the backseat. It's windy and cold in the R.M. of MacDonald. Dusty, cloudy, and most of all... dry. The only thing productive: My prescripted allergy drugs are working. All is calm, yet all is bland.
This will sum up my day at work. "Will", being the key word.
Anyway, sorry for being a downer on this downer of a day. Work and moving has bogged my free time down, and as a result, I've been struggling to settle in and relax. Backseat blogging will help me clear my head, I hope.
Cheers to better days, and the better days to come!

WNL
I've once again made CTV News while larviciding for mosquitoes. They even managed to catch me smirk/laugh at the fact that they were filming me for the second time in about a month. The funny thing is, they told us that they wanted to film us spraying a field but then only arrived when we finished the listing. So we were walking back and that's the shot that I was in. Another guy that they supposedly filmed for so long didn't even make the cut (and he would not stop talking about all the attention he was getting)! Funny stuff.
This time I didn't need the search expertise of Jill to find the video on their website (I did actually ask her for her help right before I found it though)! Take a look at the video here: CTV News
Anyways, besides being the "poster boy" of Insect Control (that's a joke), I have settled into the job pretty easily (anyone would). I'll share one funny story with y'all (even though there are plenty every day that just can't be put on here)...
Last week, we were at our last listing of the day before heading into the yard. It was an off-road property listing and amongst walking down the drive-way I mentioned to my driver that we may actually finish without throwing on a backpack of chemical! Almost everything has been "WNL" in the last week or so (meaning Water No Larvae), so we haven't had to use the packs. I jinxed it. We walked to the yard and happened to scare the home owner who was weed whacking. She was so thankful that we had come and she couldn't wait to show us all the water on the property (just great... the listing said only the tree/bush area, but she had other ideas). When she spoke I knew she had to be Latvian, based on my friend's accent (shout-out to my only Latvian friend, Agnese). She went on saying how they had dumped engine oil into their ditches already. I have never heard of that! She even mentioned how Javex worked like a charm and killed the larvae instantly. I laughed and said it probably kills everything else too! She would do anything to get rid of those pests. She also believed that mosquitoes can hatch in mud (with the Internet as her source). Hilarious! I assured her it wasn't true (while chuckling). After she was done, we put on the packs and let loose. With her questioning our overall spray job, I just wanted to tell her we weren't there to exterminate them (which would be impossible), we were there to control them!
So yeah, we run into a lot of interesting people on this job. I love it.
p.s. I bet you could guess where I wrote this post...

8 Crazy Nights
(Dan wouldn't get out of the loader to let me plank in it.
Chuck however finished the job. Look down below!)
We're done. It's finished. C'est fini! ... For us at least. After 4 days of mosquito extinguishing and 8 straight overnight shifts of filling sandbags, WE ARE FREE. It feels good to have a life again. Throughout this period I've felt like I was in a different dimension, a limbo - if you will. Sleeping from 6am-4pm, then resting indoors before going back to work at 8pm (seeing no one during the day). What a sad work schedule. The beginning was miserable; I was pissed off after the second night. Though I finally adjusted a few nights ago so the last few nights were a breeze. Now I have to transition back... wooo (slightly positive sarcasm)!
Here are the things that got us through those 8 straight days of purgatory:
- Throwing objects at people and trying to keep a straight face afterwards. These objects included zip ties, bags, and pebbles.
- Trying to attach zip tie chains to people's clothing without them noticing.
- Collecting the free earplugs and protection glasses that they gave out every night.
- 20 questions! (Which ended up being however many it took to get the answer.)
- Our lunch table community in the conference room. Great people, great laughs. (We performed a group plank our last break. More on that below.)
- Respecting Cory, one of the awesome foremans at our machine who would always let us know when we had to get back to work. (When I planked the sandbagging shoot, he saw and said that he had heard about this planking thing. Cory would know about it.)
- Being awake to see the sunset and sunrise every night/morning. (Driving home would be blinding.)
- Harry Potter audiobooks (for Malech).
- Our "lunch" break runs to McDonald's.
- Routine.
--> For example, the first four hours consisted of 20 questions, which made it fly by. The "afternoon" (for myself) consisted of alternating Apple and Shure earbuds with earmuffs and earplugs, listening to podcasts or music.
--> Also, we would rotate to the next position after every load, switching things up so that we would never get (too) bored. (There was apparently one girl at a table who stood at the shoot, filling the sandbag every night for the full 10 hours! That's 80 hours doing that ONE THING. Unreal!)
- Our 80 year old, Moses looking, front-end loader driver. Pretty sure he was hot-boxing that thing in between loads...
- Blasting Europe's "The Final Countdown" in the last hour of the operation.
- Darcy's car. That Honda S2000 made my first ever plank very special.
- And of course planking itself:
As our final break prank, we all hid from our usual conference room and placed clues for Cory to find and follow. These clues were two drawn arrows on paper. One on the podium we placed in front of the door and the second in the hallway pointing toward where we would be... planking on the floor. Disappointingly, another foreman was the one who came to get us. But the mission was accomplished; he was very confused. Pictures to come.
To celebrate the closure of our operation, most of our community lunch table went out for breakfast at the Salisbury House. Half of us will now go our separate ways as the others our now based at a different yard. However, our sandbagging bond will never be forgotten.

Plank Fever
My first ever plank.
Planking is unreal. It's simple and pretty stupid looking... but it is hilarious! It involves face-down rigidity and obscure locations. So much fun. It got us through night 6 of sandbagging EASILY! ... 20 questions is also a big hit. Two more nights and then we're DONE for good.
p.s. This is like the opposite of people-watching. You act, and other people watch in bewilderment.
Happy planking everybody!

Transferred
We've been transferred on a state of emergency basis to make sandbags for the province. This means night shifts... dun dun dun (or however that dramatic sound effect goes).

I feel like a zombie waiting to go back for another painful session of mindless assembly. Sandbagging takes its toll and it's worse when it's all night long and you're just filling the bags. I'm sure there are 100 people that can attest to that at our current branch. Tough stuff (especially mentally), I ain't gonna lie. It did help having good friends stand beside you and make you laugh hysterically though. I am definitely thankful for that. Anyways, I'm not going to go on about what kind of work it is because it's simple, so here's a brief summary: There are two massive machines that distribute the sand to multiple groups who assemble the bags and toss 'em in a front-end loader. This goes on for 10 hours. Yes, it is boring. So to keep sane we obviously kept ourselves entertained throughout the shift. Here are a few of the things we ended up doing:
1. We laughed at how it felt like a prison. Herding in after break, getting a less than five minute break in between loads, being in a rundown warehouse. Maybe it was more like a drug operation... everywhere you looked you saw bundles of white bags! Actually, midway through (and this was my favourite quote of the night), Dan made a comparison: "This is purgatory."
2. We laughed for no reason.
3. We played that ammo, gun, shield/block (rock paper scissors elaboration) game that apparently nobody knew about. It must be an Ontario thing...
4. We had a "Lunch break" (12:35am) McDonald's run.
5. We tried to throw the little pebbles from the sand into Ryan's back pockets... He still might not know that that was Chuck, Jess, and I. Jess actually placed zip ties in them too.
6. We talked about our childhood... you know, anything that would pass
10 FLIPPIN' HOURS BY!
Alright, so we survived one shift but it looks like this might go on for a full week! Unreal. It may sound like I'm complaining (which I blatantly am), but it actually feels good to know that we are saving many homes and properties in rural Manitoba by lending a helping hand. Apparently the Assiniboine River has not been at these levels in 300 YEARS. The province/country helped us in '97 and now it is our turn to help the province. Thank God for altruism.
Before I end this drawn out post I'll leave you with another Life Lesson from my cousin Charles, regarding the reflective decision to remove his gloves for tying the bags with zip ties...

Made The News
As mentioned on my previous post, I was filmed sitting on the back of a truck spraying larvicide into a ditch by multiple news crews. However, I did not pvr any of these channels to see how good of a job I had done. Thanks to my friend Jill, who hunted online for it (not too long, I hope), you can see the footage HERE! You'll see my "old veteran pro" form at about the 1:42 mark in the video. Check it out!
Thanks once again Jill! Your research has earned you a well-deserved shout-out.

Sprayin' A Ditch
Well, I just finished my first week of work! Hopefully all weeks fly by like this. It is a laid-back person's dream job *as I point to myself* (meaning that it's not stressful at all...). I've decided to be pretty vague with certain things about it to cover my tracks, just in case. Therefore, I will only speak of more personal stories and not of those of my fellow co-workers that I know will be hilarious. So I apologize in advance for not delivering the full details in the subsequent posts pertaining to my job!
Oh, and if you don't know what my job is... my official title would probably be an Insect Control Operator. Anyways, I have two quick stories to tell you from the last couple days.
First, as I was callin' in our listing information at the end of the day yesterday, someone forgot to turn off their CB radio. Constant (somewhat elicit) chatter from our co-workers and Power 97 was the funny result, which blasted throughout everyone's radios including the loud speaker at the main yard. It went on for 20 minutes! And nobody could call in their listings during that time of course. Unreal.
Secondly, as my driver and I were out near the floodway in the middle of a listing, we got radioed back to the yard by one of our foremans. She sounded very stern so that caused us to worry and re-think what we had done in the day. We couldn't think of anything that we didn't do right! We got back to the yard and found out that we were the two chosen to perform a demonstration for the news crews that were there for a press conference! We were relieved and gladly agreed to show the cameras our skills (... there's no skill involved). So you might see me on the local news sittin' on the back of a truck (in my safety gear) sprayin' a ditch tonight!
Deal? ... Deal.

School's OUT!
Wow, I can't even describe how happy I am now that my final exams are done with. University is OUT and a change of pace is exactly what I am needing! "Summer" is officially here and I'm loving it, especially because I am completely free to enjoy this NHL & NBA playoff entertaining action that is goin' on.
I start work with the city in a week and a half and am proud to say that I will once again be working with my man Malech! A couple summers ago I blogged about some of our funny work scenarios when we both painted together; but now, thanks to our friend Dan... Malech, my awesome cousin Charles, Dan, and I will be working together for the Insect Control Branch of Winnipeg. Gonna be goooood. I'm sure there'll be some interesting stories to share!
I don't know how many of you played Pokemon on their Gameboys like I did... but as a tribute to being done school, I'll leave you with a hilarious video that my friend Phil shared:

West SIDE! a.k.a. The Snazzle Swans
WOAH! Three weeks down and none left... it's sad being done, but amazing memories have been had!
If I had my way, my team's name for the third week in a row would have included alliteration with the letter S. Snazzle Swans would have been EPIC... but nope, they didn't buy it. Instead they had to go with the less original: West Side (Warriors)... meh. Here is a list of my team names:
1st week: The Super Sonic Snipplets (still my fave).
2nd week: Smack Squad
3rd week: West SIDE (Warriors) a.k.a. The Snazzle Swans (I still held on to the name secretly).
Good memory from the week: Playing capture the flag and teaming up with my roommate and fellow coach Paul. We went Special Ops on the kids and stealthy laid flat in the field unnoticed, creeping in the trees, sneaking up/chasing, and scaring the living daylights out of them! GOOD TIMES! Another pretty sweet memory: My setter last week actually RAPS! We got whooped in our first set of the playoffs and so I had him rap to pump the team up for the second set. It worked! We went on a 16-2 run to start! UNREAL!
I just want to thank my fellow staff of Scott, Patti, Sung Knows, and the other really cool peeps for a great three weeks! It was truly an awesome experience playing volleyball once again and praising God throughout the entire time! Until next year... maybe! I never know what I'm doin'.

Smack Squad
Two down, ONE to GO!
Yikes, camp is going by so fast. One more week left!
My team's name was Smack Squad this last week... what's with all the S's in my names so far? We'll see what name my team comes up with this week. Oh and I also couldn't repeat a championship! BAH! I need to win on the grades 11-12 side, it's the big win that I need!
My Justin Biebs impersonation music video is NOW UP! Don't judge me, it was for the kids. It was a lot of fun too, making this thing with Eric (Ludacris) and Cam. Enjoy Nice Productions' (a.k.a Cam) official "Baby" music video!

Super Sonic SNIPPLETS
One week down, two to GO!
WOW, one week of Providence Volleyball Camp is OVER! Weird... during the week it seemed like it was going by very slowly, but in an awesome way. There are two more weeks now and I'm just getting more excited! This last week we had the most campers ever in 99; they were all so cooperative, and that made the week a BLAST of a time.
For those of you who are still confused at why I'm at a volleyball camp and say: "You're a soccer BOY, MANNY!" I'll have you know that I'm a stellar v-ball coach (I do also enjoy playing volleyball)! My team: The Super Sonic SNIPPLETS, won the Volleyfest Championship this week! Thanks to them, I won it for the first time out of the 5 total weeks I've been a coach; and I was in the final for 3 of those, NBD. It was amazing to see my team grow together as one unit, as well as seeing each player grow with their individual skills.
Other highlights of the week include:
- Calling for my team in front of the whole camp and seeing them get embarrassed because of our name. I'd yell: "SNIPPLETS?"
What is a Snipplet anyways? Since you're probably wondering that as you read this, I'll tell you how we came to get that name... It was our first meal as a team and we had to make up our team name. Three of my teammates mentioned that we should be called the Snippers. I didn't hear them and thought that they had said the Snipplets. Super Sonic was added later and BAM, the best name in Prov Sports Camps history was created!
- Dressing up as Special Ops with Paul Warkentin and hiding in the trees and bushes on campus, scaring the campers, and chasing them in Capture the Flag!
- Sharing my testimony and some words of wisdom during chapel and also playing the jembe in the worship team!
- Dressing up like a mime on Parisian Night and playing a contestant in Prov's own Bachelorette game!
- And just dominating the campers in the Staff vs. Campers All-Star game!
There are probably a bunch more I could think of but I'll leave it with these major ones. Good times. Hopefully the next two weeks go just as well!
Here is a video that the Sung Knows crew put together of some of the camp rules, I'll post the other two (that I'm in) once Cam decides the right time to post them. It'll probs be after camps. I hope you enjoy RAP:

Back to Basics
WELL, as you can see I have gone back to my inaugural main blog picture! Yes, deal with it! I will eventually revamp my whole blog look, but until then, enjoy a blast from the PAST!
It's that time of year again when I head to Providence College to coach at their renowned Sports CAMPS! It's gonna be GOOD! Last year was amazing and I can't wait for these next three weeks, it's gonna be UNREAL! So ciao, I'm not sure how much time I'll have to blog, but we'll see, you know? World Cup Reflections: Dutch Delight!
Netherlands have made the WORLD CUP FINAL! Oh boy, I'm getting nervous just thinking about it. What a game yesterday! I still haven't gotten over Giovanni van Bronckhorst's unbelievable goal! It sailed in from 30 yards!!!!!
Germany and Spain finished today... I can't believe Germany went against what was going for them the whole tournament! The sat back and let those Spaniards control the game with possession. At least there will be a new champion! Hopefully Robben runs circles around the Spanish, especially that Puyol with his annoying curly, dangling, mopey, moppy, floppy hair!
Spain has never reached a World Cup final, and the Dutch have been there twice. I hope the experience of being there propels Holland to a decisive victory!
Get ready for July 11th, Spain vs. Netherlands is gonna be a GOOD GAME!
Contact me if you want to experience the game with a Dutchie!
p.s. Sung Knows crew and I shot some Prov Sports Camps vids yesterday... "HILARIOUS" was a text I got from Cam, so get ready for some funny footage. I'm pumped!

All Work... Yet, All Play
Well, I'm two and a half weeks into my second summer as a painter and I think it's time to share some of my experience thus far. I'm really enjoying it, it's a super laid back crew of my boss, a part-time co-worker, and I. Nope, my co-worker is not my boy Malech this time (good times last year; check past summer posts)! This year I have the privilege to work with Ray, or as I like to call him: Uncle Ray. No, Ray is not a real uncle of mine, but he is old enough to be, and basically acts as a fun uncle figure anyways. The only difficult thing with Uncle Ray, is that he can have quite the negative outlook on life... I try to steer away from those conversations. Other than that, he makes me laugh, so I'm happy and it also keeps the job interesting. He loves to talk about his cooking. The other day during lunch, he started talking about how he found a place that didn't have chickens under 13 pounds in weight. It'd be enough for two meals for his family and he'd throw the carcass in the freezer overnight to save it for soup the next day... This was totally out of the blue! You should hear him talk about his chili and also how he gets his two kids to eat vegetables. Trust me, it's hilarious and definitely entertaining (ask me if you really want to know).
Every house we've been at has had a specific "thing" that is just abnormal. For the first week's house, there was just an excessive amount of dust EVERYWHERE! It was the dustiest house I have ever been in. When we turned off an overhead fan, the amount of dust on each blade was an inch thick (the fan never turned back on, once it stopped, it died). It was sickening. What's more, is that the owner is an interior designer and there were a lot of paintings and decorative wall art all over the house. You would think that she'd keep her house clean because of that. But nope, cobwebs EVERYWHERE! We even got blamed for leaving the bedroom doors open because "our" dust and such filth ventured in them. Jeezaloo!
The next week I spent a day on Wellington Crescent at a ritzy penthouse complex with whole floor suites. We were painting one of the suite's library. The abnormal thing about it, was that everything in the suite was priceless in value! I mean, there were golden animal statues in each corner of every room!
Today we finished doing a house's exterior for this elderly, Dutch couple. Two things: 1) They must be very patriotic; we painted all their shutters bright orange (they're getting ready for the World Cup!), and 2) They LOVE birds. Let me tell you about the latter... You walk into the backyard and the first thing you see is a luxurious bird house on a fifteen foot tall pole. Next, you walk into the garage and the first thing you see is a large, vintage Pepsi Cola cooler. You then open the cooler, and the first thing you see is bird seed filled up to the brim! I could not paint for a second without hearing a bird in that backyard, whether it be the flapping of their wings, their chirping of joy, or their chirping of anger because of cross-species bickering. I even turned around and almost fell off my ladder because I saw a hanging fake parrot in the window! Ya, Malech wouldn't have been able to work at that place (bird phobia).
Oh ya, one last thing: There is always one small dog in each neighbourhood that never SHUTS UP!
So that's a short summary of what my job has been like so far. I love how I meet new people and have to head to a new and different work space each week. It's great. Hopefully there are more unreal stories to come!
Before I started this entry, I was instructed by Josh Dyck, through a Skype call, to write well... I hope this post met your expectations, and thank you for the inspiring words.
Drained
What's with this weather in Winnipeg? I can't even recall the last time it was this rainy four days in a row. This definitely has to do with the way I'm feeling right now, that's for sure. I feel drained, just plain old drained. It's like I feel dull or at least not sharp, one might say. My thoughts are clouded... (I can't even think of another way to describe it, that's how dull I'm feeling). Hmm, this doesn't seem healthy; what's wrong with me? Could it be the mistake of having my radio alarm clock set to Hot 103 and waking up to an overly repetitive Britney Spears or Hedley song every morning? ... Most likely! Seriously, every day I wake up to an annoying song on the radio. I get pissed off instantly and smash the snooze button, all the while cursing at my radio and the awful music it was just playing. That's not a healthy way to start your day. That's why I've switched my wake-up station to CBC radio; every morning is different now! I woke up this morning to a beautiful classical piano piece. That's more like it! However, I still wanted to sleep, so I pressed the snooze button (I tend to do that a lot), non-violently this time, and 10 mins later I woke up to a pleasant conversation about how people can feel better about their day! Wow, this is what I was aching to hear. Apparently, being outside is the best method for feeling better. Okay, that makes sense and somewhat should be common sense, but this is the kicker: Especially when you are by a body of water. Well then, that sounds a lot like my backyard (see main blog picture above)! Now I just have to spend more time in it.
I've also heard about a study on texting and daily moods. The amount of texting you do in a day is directly proportional to how negatively you feel. Makes sense, I've just realized that I text way too much. When I text too much in a day or in a short period of time, it's true, I feel frustrated and distraught! Plus, "screens" are what most people spend their time with these days, it's kind of disappointing once you really think about it. I'm going to try and reasonably limit my time on "screens" from this point onwards. It'll be hard because I love watching sports (especially playoffs, which is right now), video games, and blogging so much! Bah... I'll still try.
Although, maybe I'm just feeling drained because I haven't been busy during the day at all this week. I start my painting job at Chromatic Painting again tomorrow, so it'll be nice to work and make some full-time, steady money! I also start my outdoor soccer season this evening and I can't wait! I've joined a summer indoor team as well, so I'll be having a doubled fix of my favourite sport this summer! While I'm on the subject, here are my two newest soccer purchases:

My Tottenham Hotspur Crouch kit finally came in this last week! It took almost a month due to ordering it from a Scottish online store and having the Icelandic volcano halt air traffic for so long... but now it's mine, and I'm loving it (yes, Crouch is on the back of it). My other purchase is my new Nike T3 CT turf cleats you see there; my boy Malech picked them out for me (thanks bro). Sixty bucks for a pair of sweet Nike boots? Yes, please! Sweet colours too, the inner side of the boot has a turquoise Nike check mark as opposed to the dark blue one on the outter side. So PUMPED!
To sign this entry off, I have a tasty treat for ya. This came to my attention while I was driving home from St. Paul (Minneapolis) last weekend. Remember Blur? ... Does "Song 2" ring a bell? You know, the sweet song from that super old but awesome Labatt Blue commercial! Yes, the 4 members of Blur have finally recorded together again, which hasn't happened since their 2003 album!! I'm actually a big fan of this new single. It's definitely grown on me. Here it is, check it OUT: Fool's Day.

p.s. I danced my heart out at a friend's wedding social last night. There were a plenty of dance circles. It was joyous.
Peace.

Fall Term Decision
This fall term I will be attend Providence College to play the beautiful game of football [soccer]. During my time at Prov Sports Camps this summer the staff would constantly rag on me (mostly Jesse) to come to the school. I wanted to play some college ball, so I caved in and am now at the training camp this weekend! I'm pretty excited for what this term will bring. Since Prov doesn't offer any sciences I will have to take 4 electives which I have not fully decided on. Meh, I'll figure it out. I applied pretty late, (like I always do, but I guess it was a last minute decision; unlike last year where I registered for my courses in Ontario during orientation at the UofM!) so the on-line registration has already closed. So Tuesday will be the day to register for courses, in person mind you, which sucks.
We've done a few training sessions already and wow, the mosquitoes and the heat are at their worst. That is the most brutal combination of conditions to play soccer in. Unreal. Although today was somewhat windy. We'll see how the rest of this training camp goes!
p.s. My dream of becoming a College Athlete is coming true! NBD.

Scared The Bejesus Out Of...
Okay, so I'm sorry I haven't blogged in awhile. I have just been having a blast over here at Providence Sports Camps. It's exhausting but it is totes [totally] worth it.
We just finished another Clue night and I am reminiscing on an event that happened during the game; hilarious... well, if you're me.
I was Mr. Green this week and my location was the dungeon with a lead pipe as my weapon. I prep'd [prepared] a cozy area and waited for the teams of campers to come solve the murder mystery. I'm wearing leprechaun pants, a puffy green coat, and a black curly wig. I'm not comfortable at all. I needed to move around to get some fresh air. Once the groups were done with my station, I decided to play some tricks on the campers and give them quite the fright (yes, I did just say that. Love that expression). Well, the floor above my dungeon is an old rickety wooden floor with a bunch of closets. I of course hid in one and waited for a team to come down from the highest floor. Yes... I heard the heavy footsteps and the creaking of wooden floorboards. Three girls turned the corner and were heading my way. They were discussing some miscellaneous subject and I waited until they were only a few feet away to make my move. Lead pipe in hand, I prepared my exit... I BURST out of the closet like a skeleton and shrieking suddenly pierced the wing! My job was done. I scared the bejesus out of these girls and I felt accomplished. Don't worry, I made sure they weren't traumatized. I ended up high-fiving them after, so it's cool. But ya... good times!
